SiRFprima chipset now available with a fully ISO compliant TMC implementation. Stockholm, October 2008 – At the 19th annual Red Herring ETRE (European Technology Roundtable Exhibition) in Stockholm, Amaryllo, an OEM technology developer of real time traffic information solutions for navigation products announces a further line up of their solutions with the set of SiRF Centrality navigation chipsets.
Besides the - already in mass production available – TMC solution for Atlas III, the Amaryllo traffic system now has been successfully ported to the high end SiRFprima architecture, therefore efficiently covering the complete product spectrum from SiRF from low end cost effective-, to high end mulimedia application.
With the Amaryllo TMC solution, manufacturers of navigation systems can easily extend the functionality of their products to include the reception of real time traffic information that is broadcasted via the FM band as part of many radio programs all over the world. With this traffic information, the navigation application can make more accurate estimations of the travel time, warn for road construction and accidents, and in some cases can even route the driver around a traffic jam.
The use of the Amaryllo system has several major advantages. First, the solutions are cost effective: The system relies only on a very few extra hardware components and is therefore increasing the bill of materials of the device only fractionally. Second, the system is industry supported: All major navigation software developers support the Amaryllo system. Finally, Amaryllo TMC is endorsed by SiRF as the preferred solution for real time traffic information.
The SiRFprima platform includes an ultra-high-speed, multifunction processor comprised of an advanced ARM11 core, a high-performance location engine that supports both GPS and Galileo satellite systems and an on-chip DSP. It also includes hardware-accelerated 3D graphics and multimedia encoding and decoding engines. With the new Amaryllo Technology, the capabilities now also include the reception and processing of real time traffic information, transmitted by many broadcasters on the FM radio band.
